Purpose: This study explores the impact of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) subtypes classified by oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) values on maternal and perinatal outcomes. Patients and Methods: This multicenter prospective cohort study (May 2019-December 2022) included participants from the Mexican multicenter cohort study Cuido mi Embarazo (CME). Women were classified into four groups per 75-g 2-h OGTT: 1) normal glucose tolerance (normal OGTT), 2) GDM-Sensitivity (isolated abnormal fasting or abnormal fasting in combination with 1-h or 2-h abnormal results), 3) GDM-Secretion (isolated abnormal values at 1-h or 2-h or their combination), and 4) GDM-Mixed (three abnormal values). Cesarean delivery, neonates large for gestational age (LGA), and pre-term birth rates were among the outcomes compared. Between-group comparisons were analyzed using either the t-test, chi-square test, or Fisher's exact test. Results: Of 2,056 Mexican pregnant women in the CME cohort, 294 (14.3%) had GDM; 53.7%, 34.4%, and 11.9% were classified as GDM-Sensitivity, GDM-Secretion, and GDM-Mixed subtypes, respectively. Women with GDM were older (p = 0.0001) and more often multiparous (p = 0.119) vs without GDM. Cesarean delivery (63.3%; p = 0.02) and neonate LGA (10.7%; p = 0.078) were higher in the GDM-Mixed group than the overall GDM group (55.6% and 8.4%, respectively). Pre-term birth was more common in the GDM-Sensitivity group than in the overall GDM group (10.2% vs 8.5%, respectively; p=0.022). At 6 months postpartum, prediabetes was more frequent in the GDM-Sensitivity group than in the overall GDM group (31.6% vs 25.5%). Type 2 diabetes was more common in the GDM-Mixed group than in the overall GDM group (10.0% vs 3.3%). Conclusion: GDM subtypes effectively stratified maternal and perinatal risks. GDM-Mixed subtype increased the risk of cesarean delivery, LGA, and type 2 diabetes postpartum. GDM subtypes may help personalize clinical interventions and optimize maternal and perinatal outcomes.

We examined the effect of minimal lumen segmentation uncertainty on Fractional Flow Reserve obtained from Coronary Computed Tomography Angiography FFR CT $$ \left({\mathrm{FFR}}_{\mathrm{CT}}\right) $$ . A total of 14 patient-specific coronary models with different stenosis locations and degrees of severity were enrolled in this study. The optimal segmented coronary lumens were disturbed using intra ± 6 % $$ \left(\pm 6\%\right) $$ and inter-operator ± 15 % $$ \left(\pm 15\%\right) $$ variations on the segmentation threshold. FFR CT $$ {\mathrm{FFR}}_{\mathrm{CT}} $$ was evaluated in each case by 3D-OD CFD simulations. The findings suggest that the sensitivity of FFR CT $$ {\mathrm{FFR}}_{\mathrm{CT}} $$ to this type of uncertainty increases distally and with the stenosis severity. Cases with moderate or severe distal coronary lesions should undergo either exact and thorough segmentation operations or invasive FFR measurements, particularly if the FFR CT $$ {\mathrm{FFR}}_{\mathrm{CT}} $$ is close to the cutoff (0.80). Therefore, we conclude that it is crucial to consider the lesion's location and degree of severity when evaluating FFR CT $$ {\mathrm{FFR}}_{\mathrm{CT}} $$ results.

The dynamic nature of calamitic liquid crystals is exploited to perform isothermal phase transitions driven by dynamic covalent chemistry. For this purpose, nematic (N) arrays based on aldehyde 1 were treated with different amines (A-E) in an on-surface process, which resulted in different isothermal phase transitions. These phase transformations were caused by in-situ imination reactions and are dependent on the nature of the added amine. Transitions from the N to crystal (1A, 1E), isotropic (1B), and smectic (Sm) (1C, 1D) phases were achieved, while the resulting materials feature thermotropic liquid crystal behavior. A sequential transformation from the N 1 to the Sm 1C and then to the N 1B was achieved by coupling an imination to a transimination processes and adjusting the temperature. All of these processes were well characterized by microscopic, spectroscopic, and X-ray techniques, unlocking not only the constitutional but also the structural aspects of the phase transitions. This work provides new insights into designing constitutionally and structurally adaptable liquid crystal systems, paving the way toward the conception of programable evolutive pathways and adaptive materials.

PURPOSE: To investigate longitudinal associations between physical activity levels and obesity in adults in Colombia, where participation in large amounts of light-intensity physical activity is a necessity for many people. METHODS: Participation in moderate- and vigorous-intensity physical activity was assessed from 2005 to 2009 and obesity was assessed from 2011 to 2019 in men and women from the Prospective Urban Rural Epidemiology (PURE) study. Total physical activity level was categorized as low (<600 MET-min/week), medium (600-3,000 MET-min/week), or high (>3,000 MET-min/week) (600 MET-min/week is equivalent to 150 minutes of moderate activity or 75 minutes of vigorous activity per week). Obesity was defined as body mass index ≥30 kg/m2. Analyses were adjusted for age, sex, smoking, socioeconomic status, diet, alcohol, sedentary time, and sleep. RESULTS: The main analysis included 3,086 men and women aged 51 ± 9 years at baseline (mean ± SD). Compared to the low physical activity group, the odds ratio (95% confidence interval) for obesity was 0.67 (0.53, 0.85) in the medium physical activity group, and 0.78 (0.62, 0.98) in the high physical activity group after adjustment for potential confounders. Smoking is probably a major confounder and it is noteworthy that similar associations were observed in participants who reported never smoking. CONCLUSIONS: The PURE study is the only prospective cohort study in Colombia. The present analysis is important because it suggests that even the busy people of Colombia could substantially reduce their risk of obesity by participating in moderate- and vigorous-intensity physical activity.

Precipitation plays a crucial role in the natural hydrological cycle. Understanding the spatial and temporal variations of precipitation isotopes is essential for identifying hydrological, meteorological, and ecological processes. In high mountain areas with arid and semi-arid conditions, especially in regions with endorheic basins, the portion of precipitation that infiltrates the groundwater as the primary source of water recharge. However, estimating this recharge is challenging and prone to high uncertainty. The main objective of this study was to implement a robust and detailed methodology to analyze the influence of meteorological variables and the origin of moisture sources on the stable isotopic composition (δ18O and δ2H) of precipitation. As an illustrative case, we focused on the Los Pozuelos Basin, an endorheic basin in the Altiplano-Puna region of the Andes. The analysis incorporated precipitation samples collected over a 3-year period (January 2020 to April 2023) along with comprehensive monitoring of local atmospheric variables, satellite imagery, and HYSPLIT backward trajectory models. The examination involved a multivariate analysis of meteorological and stable isotope data and atmospheric transport pattern. Precipitation characteristics exhibited seasonal variability, with summer precipitation being depleted in heavy isotopes due to its extended continental journey and the recycling it undergoes while crossing the Amazon basin with convective activity. Another moisture path from the Atlantic Ocean, via the Río de la Plata or Gran Chaco basin, represented an intermediate isotopic stage. La Niña events intensified westerly winds, drawing moist air masses from the Pacific Ocean and causing rainfall in the study area. In winter, precipitation comes from the Pacific Ocean and isotopically enriched due to the low amount of precipitation and lower convective activity. By employing a meticulous methodology and multivariate statistical analysis, the study contributes positively to the broader discourse on water resource management and conservation in arid and semi-arid environments.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to assess the efficacy and tolerability of stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) for the treatment of liver metastases. METHODS: Patients with up to 5 liver metastases were enrolled in this prospective multicenter study and underwent SBRT. Efficacy outcomes included in-field local control (LC), progression-free survival (PFS), and overall survival (OS). Acute and late toxicities were evaluated using CTCAE v.4.0. RESULTS: A total of 52 patients with 105 liver metastases were treated between 2015 and 2018. The most common primary tumor was colorectal cancer (72% of cases). Liver metastases were synchronous with the primary tumor diagnosis in 24 patients (46.2%), and 21 patients (40.4%) presented with other extrahepatic oligometastases. All patients underwent intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT)/volumetric-modulated arc therapy (VMAT) with image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) and respiratory gating, and a minimum biologically effective dose (BED10Gy) of 100 Gy was delivered to all lesions. With a median follow-up of 23.1 months (range: 13.4-30.9 months) since liver SBRT, the median actuarial local progression-free survival (local-PFS) was not reached. The actuarial in-field LC rates were 84.9% and 78.4% at 24 and 48 months, respectively. The median actuarial liver-PFS and distant-PFS were 11 and 10.8 months, respectively. The actuarial median overall survival (OS) was 27.7 months from SBRT and 52.5 months from metastases diagnosis. Patients with lesion diameter ≤ 5 cm had significantly better median liver-PFS (p = 0.006) and OS (p = 0.018). No acute or late toxicities of grade ≥ 3 were observed. CONCLUSIONS: This prospective multicenter study confirms that liver SBRT is an effective alternative for the treatment of liver metastases, demonstrating high rates of local control and survival while maintaining a low toxicity profile.

BACKGROUND: ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) systems of care have reduced inter-hospital transfer times and facilitated timely reperfusion goals. Helicopters may be an option when land transportation is not feasible; however, the safety of air transport in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is a factor to consider. OBJETIVES: The aim of this study was to evaluate the safety of helicopter transport for patients with ACS. METHODS: Prospective, observational, and descriptive study including patients diagnosed with ACS within the STEMI network of a metropolitan city transferred by helicopter to a large cardiovascular center to undergo percutaneous coronary intervention. The primary outcome of the study was the incidence of air-travel-related complications defined as IV dislodgement, hypoxia, arrhythmia, angina, anxiety, bleeding, and hypothermia. Secondary outcomes included the individual components of the primary outcome. RESULTS: A total of 106 patients were included in the study; the mean age was 54 years and 84.9% were male. The most frequent diagnosis was STEMI after successful fibrinolysis (51.8%), followed by STEMI with failed fibrinolysis (23.7%) and non-reperfused STEMI (9.4%). Five patients (4.7%) developed at least one complication: IV dislodgement (1.8%) and hypoxemia (1.8%) in two patients and an episode of angina during flight (0.9%). A flight altitude of > 10,000 ft was not associated with complications. CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study suggest that helicopter transportation is safe in patients undergoing acute coronary syndrome, despite the altitude of a metropolitan area.


ANTECEDENTES: Los sistemas de atención de IAMCEST han reducido los tiempos de transferencia interhospitalaria y han facilitado las metas de reperfusión oportuna. Los helicópteros pueden ser una opción cuando el transporte terrestre no es factible; sin embargo, la seguridad del transporte aéreo en pacientes con síndrome coronario agudo (SICA) es un factor a considerar. OBJETIVOS: Evaluar la seguridad del transporte en helicóptero para pacientes con SICA. MÉTODOS: Estudio prospectivo, observacional, descriptivo. Se incluyeron pacientes con diagnóstico de SICA dentro de la red IAMCEST en metrópolis extensa, trasladados en helicóptero a un centro cardiovascular. El resultado primario del estudio fue la incidencia de complicaciones relacionadas con los viajes aéreos definidas cómo desalojo de catéter intravenoso, hipoxia, arritmia, angina, ansiedad, sangrado e hipotermia. RESULTADOS: Total de 106 pacientes; la edad media fue de 54 años y 84,9% eran hombres. La altitud media de vuelo fue de 10,100 pies y la distancia media de vuelo fue de 50,0 km. El diagnóstico más frecuente fue IAMCEST tras fibrinolisis exitosa (51,8%), seguido de IAMCEST con fibrinolisis fallida (23,7%). Cinco pacientes (4,7%) desarrollaron una complicación: desalojo IV (1,8%) e hipoxemia (1,8%) en dos pacientes y un episodio de angina durante el vuelo (0,9%). Una altitud de vuelo mayor de 10,000 pies no se asoció a complicaciones. CONCLUSIONES: Los resultados de este estudio sugieren que el transporte en helicóptero es seguro en pacientes con SICA, incluso en altitudes > 10,000 pies.

Ordinary metals contain electron liquids within well-defined 'Fermi' surfaces at which the electrons behave as if they were non-interacting. In the absence of transitions to entirely new phases such as insulators or superconductors, interactions between electrons induce scattering that is quadratic in the deviation of the binding energy from the Fermi level. A long-standing puzzle is that certain materials do not fit this 'Fermi liquid' description. A common feature is strong interactions between electrons relative to their kinetic energies. One route to this regime is special lattices to reduce the electron kinetic energies. Twisted bilayer graphene1-4 is an example, and trihexagonal tiling lattices (triangular 'kagome'), with all corner sites removed on a 2 × 2 superlattice, can also host narrow electron bands5 for which interaction effects would be enhanced. Here we describe spectroscopy revealing non-Fermi-liquid behaviour for the ferromagnetic kagome metal Fe3Sn2 (ref. 6). We discover three C3-symmetric electron pockets at the Brillouin zone centre, two of which are expected from density functional theory. The third and most sharply defined band emerges at low temperatures and binding energies by means of fractionalization of one of the other two, most likely on the account of enhanced electron-electron interactions owing to a flat band predicted to lie just above the Fermi level. Our discovery opens the topic of how such many-body physics involving flat bands7,8 could differ depending on whether they arise from lattice geometry or from strongly localized atomic orbitals9,10.

BACKGROUND: The learning process in clinical placements for health care students is a multifaceted endeavor that engages numerous actors and stakeholders, including students, clinical tutors, link teachers, and academic assessors. Successfully navigating this complex process requires the implementation of tasks and mentorships that are synchronized with educational and clinical processes, seamlessly embedded within their respective contexts. Given the escalating number of students and the rising demand for health care services from the general population, it becomes imperative to develop additional tools that support the learning process. These tools aim to simplify day-to-day clinical practice, allowing a concentrated focus on value-based activities. This paper introduces a project funded by the European Commission that involves 5 European countries. The project's objective is to comprehensively outline the entire process of development and ultimately implement mobile technology in practice placements. The project tackles the existing gap by constructing tailored mobile apps designed for students, teachers, tutors, and supervisors within each participating organization. This approach leverages practice-based learning, mobile technology, and technology adoption to enhance the overall educational experience. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to introduce mobile technology in clinical practice placements with the goal of facilitating and enhancing practice-based learning. The objective is to improve the overall effectiveness of the process for all stakeholders involved. METHODS: The "4D in the Digitalization of Learning in Practice Placement" (4D Project) will use a mixed methods research design, encompassing 3 distinct study phases: phase 1 (preliminary research), which incorporates focus groups and a scoping review, to define the problem, identify necessities, and analyze contextual factors; phase 2 (collaborative app development), which involves researchers and prospective users working together to cocreate and co-design tailored apps; and phase 3, which involves feasibility testing of these mobile apps within practice settings. RESULTS: The study's potential impact will primarily focus on improving communication and interaction processes, fostering connections among stakeholders in practice placements, and enhancing the assessment of training needs. The literature review and focus groups will play a crucial role in identifying barriers, facilitators, and factors supporting the integration of mobile technology in clinical education. The cocreation process of mobile learning apps will reveal the core values and needs of various stakeholders, including students, teachers, and health care professionals. This process also involves adapting and using mobile apps to meet the specific requirements of practice placements. A pilot study aimed at validating the app will test and assess mobile technology in practice placements. The study will determine results related to usability and design, learning outcomes, student engagement, communication among stakeholders, user behavior, potential issues, and compliance with regulations. CONCLUSIONS: Health care education, encompassing disciplines such as medicine, nursing, midwifery, and others, confronts evolving challenges in clinical training. Essential to addressing these challenges is bridging the gap between health care institutions and academic settings. The introduction of a new digital tool holds promise for empowering health students and mentors in effectively navigating the intricacies of the learning process. OBJECTIVES: Dental anthropological investigations into sexual dimorphism have conventionally concentrated on evaluating the dimensions and configuration of the enamel cap of canines. However, the morphology of the crown dentine surface can be closely linked to that of the enamel surface. This link can facilitate examination of crown morphology even when the enamel surface is slightly worn. Here, we determine if the morphology of the enamel-dentine junction (EDJ) differs within (maxillary vs. mandibular) and between a sample of male (n = 26) and female (n = 21) contemporary human permanent canines from Europe. METHODS: The morphological data of the EDJ were gathered employing a template comprising 96 landmarks and sliding semilandmarks. Subsequently, the data underwent analysis through form space principal component analysis following Procrustes registration, utilizing standard 3D geometric morphometric techniques. RESULTS: Significant differences in the morphology of the EDJ were observed between the sexes, particularly concerning the overall shape of the crown, the symmetry of the mesial and distal edges, and the development of the distal accessory ridge. CONCLUSIONS: Sex differences in the morphology of the EDJ could relate in part to retention of the canine-premolar honing complex in males. Our results indicate that analyses of the permanent canine EDJ may potentially provide a novel method for estimating the sex of adult and nonadult skeletons.

The nucleosome remodeling factor BPTF is required for the deployment of the MYC-driven transcriptional program. Deletion of one Bptf allele delays tumor progression in mouse models of pancreatic cancer and lymphoma. In neuroblastoma, MYCN cooperates with the transcriptional core regulatory circuitry (CRC). High BPTF levels are associated with high-risk features and decreased survival. BPTF depletion results in a dramatic decrease of cell proliferation. Bulk RNA-seq, single-cell sequencing, and tissue microarrays reveal a positive correlation of BPTF and CRC transcription factor expression. Immunoprecipitation/mass spectrometry shows that BPTF interacts with MYCN and the CRC proteins. Genome-wide distribution analysis of BPTF and CRC in neuroblastoma reveals a dual role for BPTF: 1) it co-localizes with MYCN/MYC at the promoter of genes involved in cell cycle and 2) it co-localizes with the CRC at super-enhancers to regulate cell identity. The critical role of BPTF across neuroblastoma subtypes supports its relevance as a therapeutic target.

Although primary percutaneous coronary intervention (pPCI) is the treatment of choice in ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), challenges may arise in accessing this intervention for certain geodemographic groups. Pharmacoinvasive strategy (PIs) has demonstrated comparable outcomes when delays in pPCI are anticipated, but real-world data on long-term outcomes are limited. The aim of the present study was to compare long-term outcomes among real-world patients with STEMI who underwent either PIs or pPCI. This was a prospective registry including patients with STEMI who received reperfusion during the first 12 hours from symptom onset. The primary objective was cardiovascular mortality at 12 months according to the reperfusion strategy (pPCI vs PIs) and major cardiovascular events (cardiogenic shock, recurrent myocardial infarction, and congestive heart failure), and Bleeding Academic Research Consortium type 3 to 5 bleeding events were also evaluated. A total of 799 patients with STEMI were included; 49.1% underwent pPCI and 50.9% received PIs. Patients in the PIs group presented with more heart failure on admission (Killip-Kimbal >I 48.1 vs 39.7, p = 0.02) and had a lower proportion of pre-existing heart failure (0.2% vs 1.8%, p = 0.02) and atrial fibrillation (0.25% vs 1.2%, p = 0.02). No statistically significant difference was observed in cardiovascular mortality at the 12-month follow-up (hazard ratio for PIs 0.74, 95% confidence interval 0.42 to 1.30, log-rank p = 0.30) according to the reperfusion strategy used. The composite of major cardiovascular events (hazard ratio for PIs 0.98, 95% confidence interval 0.75 to 1.29, p = 0.92) and Bleeding Academic Research Consortium type 3 to 5 bleeding rates were also comparable. A low socioeconomic status, Killip-Kimball >2, age >60 years, and admission creatinine >2.0 mg/100 ml were predictors of the composite end point after multivariate analysis. In conclusion, this prospective real-world registry provides additional support that long-term major cardiovascular outcomes and bleeding are not different between patients who underwent PIs versus primary PCI.

The glymphatic system transports cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) into the brain via arterial perivascular spaces and removes interstitial fluid from the brain along perivenous spaces and white matter tracts. This directional fluid flow supports the clearance of metabolic wastes produced by the brain. Glymphatic fluid transport is facilitated by aquaporin-4 (AQP4) water channels, which are enriched in the astrocytic vascular endfeet comprising the outer boundary of the perivascular space. Yet, prior studies of AQP4 function have relied on genetic models, or correlated altered AQP4 expression with glymphatic flow in disease states. Herein, we sought to pharmacologically manipulate AQP4 function with the inhibitor AER-271 to assess the contribution of AQP4 to glymphatic fluid transport in mouse brain. Administration of AER-271 inhibited glymphatic influx as measured by CSF tracer infused into the cisterna magna and inhibited increases in the interstitial fluid volume as measured by diffusion-weighted MRI. Furthermore, AER-271 inhibited glymphatic efflux as assessed by an in vivo clearance assay. Importantly, AER-271 did not affect AQP4 localization to the astrocytic endfeet, nor have any effect in AQP4 deficient mice. Since acute pharmacological inhibition of AQP4 directly decreased glymphatic flow in wild-type but not in AQP4 deficient mice, we foresee AER-271 as a new tool for manipulation of the glymphatic system in rodent brain.

RESUMO

We present a dataset for vehicle tracking in a rural area. Specifically, in the Barranco de Poqueira region, which includes the municipalities of Pampaneira, Bubión, and Capileira in the Sierra Nevada National Park, Granada, Spain. Four Hikvision License Plate Recognition (LPR) cameras collect vehicle entries and exits to each village. Additional contextual data, including vacation calendars, vehicle origins, and socio-demographic information, enrich the dataset. The dataset comprises three files covering nine months from February to October 2022: one with raw data directly extracted from the cameras, another aggregated at the visit level and including context information, and a third aggregated by vehicles with context information. These datasets can be useful for mobility studies, urban planning, tourism, and socio-demographic analysis.

Theoretical analysis of Richtmyer-Meshkov instability (RMI) experiments for solid strength shows that the strain rate for a given shock should be inversely proportional to the length scale of the sine wave perturbations when η_{0}k, the nondimensional amplitude to wavelength ratio, is held fixed. To isolate the effect of strain rate on strength, free-surface RMI specimens of annealed copper were prepared with three perturbation regions with the same η_{0}k but different length scales, characterized by the wavelength λ varying by a factor of 4.9 from 65 to 130 to 320µm. Three such targets with different fixed η_{0}k^{'}s were impacted to a shock pressure of 25 GPa, and the instability evolution was measured with photon Doppler velocimetry. Strengths estimated by comparing hydrocode simulation to the data increased from 700 to 1200 MPa as λ decreased. The different η_{0}k targets exercised increasing amounts of plastic strain yet showed no evidence of strain hardening. Physical regime sensitivity analysis determined that for 320-65µm wavelength perturbations, the effective strain rates increased from 8.7×10^{6} to 3.3×10^{7}s^{-1}, a factor of 3.8. Thus, the predicted strain rate scaling was mostly achieved but slightly suppressed by increased strength at higher rates. The RMI strength estimates were plotted against constitutive testing data on copper from the literature to show striking evidence of the strength upturn at higher strain rates.

Up to now, there have been no publication standardizing the digital reconstruction of the modern human ribcage from commingled costo-vertebral material. Consequently, we designed a validated protocol based on anatomical features observed in the literature and the CT scanned ribcages of 10 adult European individuals. After quantifying the shape of these ribcages using 3D geometric morphometrics, we split each vertebra and rib within their corresponding (semi)landmarks. Subsequently, individual bones + (semi)landmarks were imported to LhpFusionBox, commingled and 3D reconstructed. To validate the accuracy of the protocol, we first reconstructed a randomly chosen ribcage three times and then compared these reconstructions to the rest of the sample. Since these reconstructions were closer to their original counterpart than to the others, the remaining sample was reconstructed once. Next, we tested the intra-observer error during reconstructing using the Procrustes distances among the original ribcages and the reconstructions. We observed that first each ribcage reconstruction was clustered to its original counterpart and second there was a learning curve showing an improvement in the reconstruction process over time. Subsequently, we explored general size and shape differences among the original and reconstructed ribcages through a study of centroid size and a permutation test on the Procrustes distances (10,000 permutations), respectively. Specific shape differences between both groups were further examined through a principal component analysis in shape space. None of these analyses found statistical differences between the original and reconstructed ribcages (p > 0.05). Eventually, we extracted the mean shapes of the original ribcages and the reconstructions in order to visualize potential deviations caused by the anatomical considerations of the researcher. These results demonstrate that the protocol is accurate enough to be used when reconstructing a disarticulated human ribcage.

INTRODUCTION: An out-of-hospital cardiac arrest occurs at a rate of 67-170 cases per 100 000 inhabitants per year in Europe. The early recognition of the occurrence of a cardiac arrest, placing an emergency call, performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and performing defibrillation are the most important response measures. The objective of this systematic review and meta-analysis is to assess the effects of laypersons' CPR training with respect to CPR initiation rates, cardiovascular mortality rates, survival rate and the use of an automated external defibrillator. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: The literature search will be performed in the following databases: MEDLINE, Web of Science, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Studies, CINAHL, HBI, TESEO and NTX. Intervention studies and quasi-experimental studies in which CPR training interventions were performed will be included. We will exclude studies in which the participants do not meet the inclusion criteria, without a control group and in which the methodology of the intervention applied is unclear. There will be no restrictions on publication date or language of publication. The risk of bias will be assessed using the Risk of Bias in Non-randomized Studies of Interventions tool for randomised controlled trials (RCT), non-RCT and quasi-experimental trials. Data analysis and synthesis will be performed using RevMan V.5.4.1 software. The findings will be reported in accordance with Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidance. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION: Ethical approval is not required, as only secondary data will be used. The findings will be published in a journal and presented at conferences. Rose (Rosa sp.) is an important ornamental plant in the cut flower industry around the world. This species is prone to hosting several viruses since it is propagated vegetatively, mainly by grafting (Mollov et al., 2013). In 2021, rose plants of unidentified variety with mosaic, vein yellowing, chlorotic line patterns, and interveinal chlorosis were observed in a rose plantation established in open field in Temixco, Morelos (Supplementary Figure 1). To determine the cause of symptoms was due to viral infection, nucleic acids were extracted from leaves by in-house CTAB procedure and DNase treated. A pooled RNA sample extracted from 4 symptomatic plants was sent to BGI Genomics (China) for high-throughput sequencing (HTS). A stranded mRNA library was prepared and sequenced on the DNBSEQ platform (BGI). A total number of 13,646,715 paired 150-bp clean reads were generated. The reads were assembled de novo into 79,309 contigs ranging from 78 to 15,817 nucleotides (nt) using SPAdes (Prjibelskiet et al., 2020). The contigs were subjected to BLASTx and BLASTn for annotation. A contig with a length of 8,842 nt (208x average coverage per nt) showed 90.6% identity to rose virus B (RVB) (MT473961), and was deposited in GenBank under accession number ON165234. Additionally, three contigs (ON165235-ON165237) corresponding to RNA1 (3,443 nt; 154x coverage), RNA2 (2,938 nt; 231x coverage), and RNA3 (1,897 nt; 232x coverage) of apple mosaic virus (ApMV) were identified. These contigs showed up to 98.4%, 89.7%, and 98.6% identity, respectively, to each corresponding RNA sequences of ApMV. No other viral sequence was identified from the constructed contigs. Subsequently, the presence of RVB was confirmed by RT-PCR performed with an aliquot of the pooled RNAspan style="font-family:'Times New Roman'; font-size:11pt"> with specific primers targeting the replicase and CP (Diaz-Lara et al., 2021). For ApMV, a new set of primers were designed: ApMV_RNA1F (5'-AAATCTCCCGAAAGGGCCTG-3')/ApMV_RNA1R (5'-TCACTCGTCGCATGGATGGATAGC-3'), ApMV_RNA2F (5'-TTGGTACGAGTCGTGGTTGGTTGG-3')/ApMV_RNA2R (5'-GGAAAACTGACCGCAAACCC-3'), and ApMV_RNA3F (5'-GGAGGTTAGAGGCCCGAATG-3')/ApMV_RNA3R (5'-CGCACAGGTGGTAACTCACT-3') which amplify segments of 444 bp, 546 bp, and 434 bp, respectively. The amplicons obtained for both viruses were subjected to Sanger sequencing, confirming the identity of RVB and ApMV. The sequences from the RVB replicase (ON165241) and CP (ON165240) showed 93.9% and 97.0% nt identity with an RVB isolate reported in the USA (MT473961). On the other hand, sequences from RNA1 (ON165238), RNA2, (OP413436), and RNA3 (ON165239) of ApMV had 99.2%, 89.2%, and 99% nt identity, respectively. Finally, the four symptomatic plants were individually tested by RT-PCR to identify RVB and ApMV. Interestingly, both viruses were detected in all the plants analyzed. ApMV (genus Ilarvirus) is associated with mosaic and mottling symptoms in rose (Thomas, 1984). It has been accepted that ApMV is present in rose plants in Mexico (Cardenas-Alonso, 1994), with no evidence to confirm it. RVB was identified in rose in USA, and this virus was classified as a new species of the genus Carlavirus (Diaz-Lara et al., 2021). In addition to RVB, rose virus A and rose virus C have also been reported in rose; however, the symptomatology linked to these viruses is unknown (Xing et al. 2021; Diaz-Lara et al., 2020). Recently, RVB and ApMV were reported in rose plants in Taiwan (Chen et al., 2022). To our knowledge, this is the first report of RVB and ApMV in a mixed infection in rose in Mexico.

AIM: Management of diverticulitis with abscess formation in immunosuppressed patients (IMS) remains unclear. The main objective of the study was to assess short- and long-term outcomes between IMS and immunocompetent patients (IC). The secondary aim was to identify risk factors for emergency surgery. METHODS: A nationwide retrospective cohort study was performed at 29 Spanish referral centres between 2015-2019 including consecutive patients with first episode of diverticulitis classified as modified Hinchey Ib or II. IMS included immunosuppressive therapy, biologic therapy, malignant neoplasm with active chemotherapy and chronic steroid therapy. A multivariate analysis was performed to identify independent risk factors to emergency surgery in IMS. RESULTS: A total of 1395 patients were included; 118 IMS and 1277 IC. There were no significant differences in emergency surgery between IMS and IC (19.5% and 13.5%, p = 0.075) but IMS was associated with higher mortality (15.1% vs. 0.6%, p < 0.001). Similar recurrent episodes were found between IMS and IC (28% vs. 28.2%, p = 0.963). Following multivariate analysis, immunosuppressive treatment, p = 0.002; OR: 3.35 (1.57-7.15), free gas bubbles, p < 0.001; OR: 2.91 (2.01-4.21), Hinchey II, p = 0.002; OR: 1.88 (1.26-2.83), use of morphine, p < 0.001; OR: 3.08 (1.98-4.80), abscess size ≥5 cm, p = 0.001; OR: 1.97 (1.33-2.93) and leucocytosis at third day, p < 0.001; OR: 1.001 (1.001-1.002) were independently associated with emergency surgery in IMS. CONCLUSION: Nonoperative management in IMS has been shown to be safe with similar treatment failure than IC. IMS presented higher mortality in emergency surgery and similar rate of recurrent diverticulitis than IC. Identifying risk factors to emergency surgery may anticipate emergency surgery.

Zebrafish (Danio rerio) is a widely used vertebrate animal for modeling genetic diseases by targeted editing strategies followed by gross phenotypic and biomarker characterization. While larval transparency permits microscopic detection of anatomical defects, histological adult screening for organ-level defects remains invasive, tedious, inefficient, and subject to technical artifact. Here, we describe a noninvasive magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) approach to systematically screen adult zebrafish for anatomical growth defects. An anatomical atlas of wild-type (WT) zebrafish at 5-31 months post-fertilization was created by ex vivo MRI with a 9.4 T magnet. Volumetric growth over time was measured of animals and major organs, including the brain, spinal cord, heart, eyes, optic nerve, ear, liver, kidneys, and swim bladder. Subsequently, surf1-/-, fbxl4-/-, and opa1+/- mitochondrial disease mutant adult zebrafish were quantitatively studied to compare organ volumes with age-matched WT zebrafish. Results demonstrated that MRI enabled noninvasive, high-resolution, rapid screening of mutant adult zebrafish for overall and organ-specific growth abnormalities. Detailed volumetric analyses of three mitochondrial disease mutants delineated specific organ differences, including significantly increased brain growth in surf1-/- and opa1+/-, and marginally significant decreased heart and spinal cord volumes in surf1-/- mutants. This is interesting as we know neurological involvement can be seen in SURF1-/- patients with ataxia, dystonia, and lesions in basal ganglia, as well as in OPA1+/- patients with spasticity, ataxia, and hyperreflexia indicative of neuropathology. Similarly, cardiomyopathy is a known sequelae of cardiac pathology in patients with SURF1-/--related disease. Future studies will define MRI signaling patterns of organ dysfunction to further delineate specific pathology.
